Some of the nutrients babies need to grow and stay healthy include:
3/ Iron - blood cells, brain development.
4/ Protein and carbohydrates - energy and fuel growth.
5/ Zinc - cell grow and repair.
Babies also need the full range of vitamins.
The best way for breast-fed babies to get enough nutrients is for Mum to take a good-quality multi-nutrient supplement as well as a healthy, multi-coloured diet.
Some Food suggestions for Mum
1/ Carrots and sweet potatoes (vitamin A); green veggies, bananas and beans (B vitamins); tomatoes and strawberries (vitamin C); and cereal & grains (vitamin E).
2/ Iron-rich foods include meat, egg yolks, whole grain breads and cereals, peas, beans and chickpeas.
3/ Omega-3 foods: salmon, grass-fed meat, tofu, flaxseed & yogurt, cereal and eggs.
4/ Dairy products: cottage cheese and yogurt should be full-fat or made from whole milk.
5/Healthy fat - avocado and olive oil.
6/ Protein-packed foods, including eggs, meat, chicken, fish and tofu.
7/ Calcium-rich foods (whole milk cottage cheese) & some grains can also provide protein.
