Baking Soda Test
Many people with acid reflux take PPIs, (lansoprazole (Prevacid), omeprazole (Prilosec), pantoprazole (Protonix), rabeprazole (AcipHex), and esomeprazole (Nexium)), to reduce their stomach acid.
Acid reflux is often due to too little stomach acid, not too much => the lower oesophageal sphincter (a circular muscle which acts like a valve) does not get the signal to close => acid can get from the stomach to the oesophagus.
1/ Drink half a glass of cold water combined with 1/4 tsp of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda), on an empty stomach.Â
2/ Time how long it takes you to burp (small hiccups are not burps and due to inhaling air while drinking!).Â
3/ If it takes longer than 3 mins to burp=> you don't have enough stomach acid.
