Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Chronic fatigue Syndrome (CFS) or myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME), is a chronic condition with a wide range of symptoms.

> It is most common in women in their 40s and 50s.

> The severity of symptoms can vary from day to day, or even within a day.

> The symptoms of ME/CFS are similar to those of some other illnesses, so it's important to see a GP to get a correct diagnosis.

Symptoms

  1. feeling extremely tired all the time, even after sleeping.

  2. taking a long time to recover after physical activity

  3. problems sleeping, memory and concentration

  4. muscle or joint pain

  5. headaches or sore throat

  6. feeling dizzy/sick or flu-like symptoms

  7. fast or irregular heartbeats

Causes include:

  • viral infections (eg. glandular fever) and bacterial infections (eg. pneumonia)

  • problems with the immune system

  • hormone imbalance

  • genes

  • problems converting food into energy

A naturopathic nutritionist may consider:

1/ magnesium deficiency

3/ stress response

4/ food allergy/sensitivity

5/ digestion
