Foundations of Naturopathic Medicine

1/ The Healing Power of Nature: remove obstacles to healing, and augment the self-healing process.

2/ Identify & Treat the Causes remove the causes of illness rather than eliminate or suppress symptoms

3/ Do No Harm

  • Utilise methods and substances which minimize the risk of harmful side effects;
  • Avoid when possible the harmful suppression of symptoms; and

  • Acknowledge, respect, and work with individuals’ self-healing process.

4/ Education: Naturopathic physicians educate clients and encourage self-responsibility for health.

5/ Treat the Whole Person: consider physical, mental, emotional, genetic, environmental, & social factors.

6/ Prevention: assess risk factors, & make appropriate interventions with patients to prevent illness.

While my aim is to support all health conditions, I have a particular interest in -

Digestive System

A healthy digestive system is essential to deliver required nutrients to all organs. Poor liver detoxification and waste elimination can increase the toxic burden on cells and disrupt cellular function. Digestive health impacts bone, muscle, cardiovascular, endocrine and nervous system health. IBS, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, peptic ulcers, SIBO, diverticulitis, GORD, constipation, diarrhea and liver & gallbladder issues are affected by the digestive system.

Endocrine System

The endocrine system coordinates the activity of organs through hormones (chemical messengers). Endocrine glands include adrenal, hypothalamus, pituitary, thyroid, pancreas, ovaries and testes. Endocrine tissues include kidneys, skin, liver, placenta, stomach and adipose.

Fertility issues, menopause, PMS, endometriosis, PCOS, benign prostatic hyperplasia, prostatitis, thyroid conditions, stress, fatigue and type 2 diabetes are included here.

Immune System

The immune system protects us from pathogenic microbes and non-self & harmful antigens. It includes the skin, saliva, mucous membranes, antibodiies, inflammation mediators, tonsils, intestines and appendix. Viruses, bacterial infections, parasites, allergies, post-viral fatigue syndrome, ME and autoimmune diseases (rheumatoid arthritis, lupus, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, Graves disease, type 1 diabetes, IBD, MS and coeliac disease) are affected by the immune system.
